Football Beats Twiggs County at Home 63-21

MACON, Ga.- Using a 42-0 scoring run to start the game, including 28 points in the first quarter, the First Presbyterian Day School football team (4-2, 2-1 Reg. 7-A) defeated the Twiggs County High School Cobras 63-21 on Friday, October 12, 2012.

The win marks the second straight region victory for FPD in as many weeks.

The Vikings struck early when Brooks Stroud ran in 4-yard touchdown with 7:47 to go in the first quarter.

Just over a minute later, FPD struck again when Darron Moore found the end zone on a 9-yard score to make it 14-0 with 6:21 remaining in the first quarter.

Also in the first, Stroud connected with Alec Martin for a 28-yard touchdown to push the Viking lead to 21-0 with 4:42 on the clock.

Will Black and Scott McCormick added touchdowns in the first half for FPD as well. Moore and Stroud also notched touchdowns in the second quarter for the Vikings.

Twiggs County would post 14 points in the second quarter to make it 49-14 heading into halftime.

In the second half, the Vikings scored 14 points and held the Cobras to just one score.

FPD scored in the third quarter when Stroud carried it in from 5 yards. The Vikings also got a touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 47-yard run from Barron Jones.

Stroud led the Vikings in rushing, gaining 128 yards on 10 carries. The Viking quarterback also threw for two touchdowns on 7-of-13 passing for 109 yards.

McCormick led the Viking receivers with 56 yards.

Altogether, the Vikings tallied 350 yards of offense on the night. The FPD defense held Twiggs to just 142 yards of offense on the ground.

With the victory, FPD head football coach Greg Moore has won 99 games in his career at FPD.

The 63 points scored by FPD tonight (Oct. 12, 2012) is the highest in school history since becoming a member of the GHSA. The previous was 46 on October 14, 2011 in a win at Southwest Atlanta Christian.

The last time the Vikings posted 63 points in a game was back on September 25, 2009 in a 63-0 win against Trinity Christian.

The Vikings return to action on Friday, October 19, traveling to Hancock Central. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
