Head Coach Greg Moore Earns 100th Career Win as Football Defeats Hancock Central

SPARTA, Ga. – First Presbyterian Day School athletic director and head football coach Greg Moore has witnessed and been a part of many special moments over the last 20-plus years being involved in the Viking athletic department. Etch October 19, 2012 into that category as well as the Vikings (5-2, 3-1 GHSA 7-A) defeated the Hancock Central High School Bulldogs 42-14 en route to Moore’s 100th career victory as FPD’s head football coach.

The Vikings used yet another balanced offensive attack and a stellar defensive performance in claiming their third straight win.

FPD drew first blood in the first quarter when Brooks Stroud ran the ball in for a 2-yard score to make it 7-0.

Stroud and the Vikings struck again on a 1-yard carry with 6:27 left in the first quarter.

The Vikings then went to the pass as Stroud found receiver Scott McCormick for a 30-yard touchdown with less than a minute remaining in the first quarter. The Vikings took a 21-0 lead into halftime.

FPD tacked on three fourth quarter touchdowns to seal the win. Stroud found teammates McCormick and Alec Martin on 30-plus yard scoring strikes to give the Vikings a commanding 35-0 lead.

Hancock would answer with a 6-yard touchdown run from Casey Adams to prevent a shutout. Adams also scored again on a 71-yard run later in the quarter.

The final FPD touchdown of the night came via Will Black, who marched in the football from 2 yards out.

The Vikings tallied 359 yards of total offense on the night, 185 coming from the run and 174 in the air. Martin led the team in rushing with five carries for 49 yards while McCormick racked up a whopping 111 yards on five receptions. Stroud ended the night 11-for-21 with 174 yards and three touchdowns.

The Vikings have scored 30 or more points the last three games and have allowed 21 or fewer over that same span.

FPD returns to action on Friday, October 26, taking on region 7-A opponent Wilkinson County. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at George S. Johnson Memorial Stadium.
