Football Drops Senior Night Game to Aquinas 42-14

MACON, Ga.- The First Presbyterian Day School football team (6-4, 4-3 GHSA Reg. 7-A) dropped its final game of the regular season on Friday, November 3 to the Aquinas Fightin’ Irish, 42-14 on Senior Night.

The Vikings struggled throughout the contest containing Brendan Douglas, who rushed for 299 yards and five touchdowns. The running back for Aquinas gained over half of the total yards for Aquinas on the night as well.

Aquinas struck first in the first quarter when Antonio Clark returned an interception 75 yards for a score. Nearly six minutes later, Douglas rushed for a 60 yard touchdown to give Aquinas an early 14-0 lead with 3:02 to play in the first frame.

The Vikings got on the board when Will Black rushed in a score from seven yards out with just 13 seconds left in the first quarter to cut the deficit in half for the Vikings at 14-7.

Douglas would strike again on a 23-yard run in the second quarter, followed by a VIking score through the air by Jonathan Raines.

Down by just one touchdown and looking to carry the momentum of a late touchdown into halftime, Douglas thwarted that plan, running for a 90-yard touchdown with 4.8 seconds left to go in the first half to give Aquinas a 28-14 lead at intermission.

Douglas also poured in two more scores in the second half while the Viking offense was held scoreless.

Aquinas racked up 410 yards in the contest while recording nine first downs. The Vikings tallied 331 yards of total offense and 15 first downs.

Darron Moore led the Vikings in rushing, gaining 98 yards on 20 carries. Scott McCormick led the Vikings in receiving, picking up 73 yards on five receptions. Quarterback Will McCormick was 9-for-21 passing, throwing for one touchdown and three interceptions.

The game marks the end of the regular season for the Vikings.

FPD will now await official word from Georgia High School Association on whether or not they will receive a berth into the 2012 Class A Private School Playoffs.

If FPD were to make the postseason, the Vikings would play on Friday, November 23.
