FPD Tennis Star Daniel Strawn to Sign with Clemson

MACON, Ga. – First Presbyterian Day School senior tennis player Daniel Strawn will sign a letter of intent with Clemson on Thursday, November 15, at a ceremony in the Middlebrooks Athletic Center.

The signing ceremony begins at 9:53 a.m. All media, students and members of the FPD family are invited to attend.

“It’s definitely an accomplishment,” Strawn said. “It feels good to know that all the hard work I have put in over the years has paid off.”

Strawn is no stranger to FPD, having attended the school from pre-K through his ninth grade year. Strawn then took two years of home-schooling to focus on his tennis regimen before returning to the Vikings for his upcoming senior campaign.

The senior has an impressive resume, reaching as high as the top four of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) for the current recruiting class of 2013. He also has been named all-region and reached the GISA final four as an individual his freshman year.

In June, Strawn and his doubles partner Becker O’ Shaughnessey, now a freshman at the University of Alabama, were finalists for the Boys 18s Georgia Qualifier in Macon. Along with this accolade, Strawn is ranked as a “4-star recruit” and boasts multiple wins over “5-star recruits” throughout his career.

Strawn is also well traveled, having participated in tournaments in Atlanta, Birmingham, Baton Rouge, Memphis, Raleigh and Charleston.

Strawn has strong FPD roots as well. His sisters, Elizabeth and Laura Lee, graduated from the school in 2006 and 2008, respectively. He is the son of Dr. Dan and Connie Strawn of Macon.

The Tigers qualified for the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament last season under current head coach Chuck McCuen.

“I want to go help contribute to the team and show the coaches and my teammates that I can play,” Strawn said.

The First Presbyterian Day School Department of Athletics, home to multiple region and state championships in both the GISA and GHSA, strives to build the student athlete both in the playing arena and the classroom while continuing to educate and equip students to change the world for God’s glory. Now a member of the GHSA, the Vikings have continued to provide FPD athletes, coaches, fans and spectators a positive, Christian environment on a daily basis.
