Girls Soccer Wins Bulldog Cup Title!

FORSYTH, Ga. – After defeating Perry High School and Howard High School, the First Presbyterian Day School girls soccer team needed just one more win in the Bulldog Cup to capture the tournament title on Saturday night, March 9.

Standing in the way was Northside High School, a team in a higher classification with a rich athletic history.

The Lady Vikings did not disappoint, however, shutting out the Lady Eagles 3-0 en route to claiming the Bulldog Cup Championship at Mary Persons High School.

The tournament win is FPD’s second this year after winning the Viking Cup just one week ago.

Atalia Ramirez scored first for the Lady Vikings in the first half off an assist by Amy Morgan.

In the second half, Ramirez struck for her second goal of the game and Katey Griggs netted a goal to give the Lady Vikings a commanding 3-0 lead and eventual win.

Ramirez scored seven goals throughout the three games FPD played in the tournament.

Despite outscoring its opponents 16-0 in the three games of the Bulldog Cup, the Lady Vikings defense has been outstanding through the first seven games of the year.

FPD has not allowed a goal, gaining shutouts in all of the recorded games thus far.

The Lady Vikings have now outscored its opponents 39-0 on the year as well.

In the boys game on Saturday, the Vikings (4-3) defeated Howard 3-0. Kevin Griggs, Christian Moore and Bradley Mullis each scored a goal in the victory.

The boys soccer team returns to the field on March 14, traveling to play Bleckley County at 7:30 p.m. The girls hit the road on March 15-16 for the Fort Mill Tournament.

The First Presbyterian Day School Department of Athletics, home to multiple region and state championships in both the GISA and GHSA, strives to build the student athlete both in the playing arena and the classroom while continuing to educate and equip students to change the world for God’s glory.
