Soccer Sweeps GMC at Home

MACON, Ga. – After Tuesday’s matches against Pacelli at home, the First Presbyterian Day School girls and boys soccer teams returned to the home pitch, welcoming Georgia Military College (GMC) Prep for a region double-header on Thursday, March 21.

In the girls match, the Lady Vikings (9-1-1, 2-0 Reg. 7A) won 9-0, gaining its ninth shutout of the season.

Atalia Ramirez and Katey Griggs each netted a hat trick (three goals) while Sara Robertson, Brook Battson and Annie Kate Barnes each scored a goal.

Jane Howell, Laney Elliott and Barnes were each credited with two assists on the night. Also garnering an assist was Amy Morgan and Griggs.

Senior keeper Claire Crawford recorded two saves while preserving the shutout as the Lady Vikings outshot GMC 35-4.

In the boys match, the Vikings (6-4, 1-1 Reg. 7A) scored early on a goal when Kevin Griggs assisted Christian Moore as the FPD defense held its ground, winning 1-0.

Despite being outshot 14-12, FPD’s defense was the story on the night. Senior keeper Jeremy Overman stymied the Bulldog attack, recording 11 saves in the shutout.

Combined on the year, the girls and boys soccer teams have outscored opponents 82-15 and have recorded 14 shutouts.

The soccer squads return to the field after the spring break holiday, welcoming Dooly County for a double-header on Wednesday, April 3. The girls start is 5 p.m. while the boys kickoff at 7 p.m.
