Atalia Ramirez Signs with Georgia Southern

MACON, Ga. – First Presbyterian Day School senior soccer player Atalia Ramirez signed a national letter of intent to play collegiate soccer with Georgia Southern today, April 4, in the Middlebrooks Athletic Center on the campus of FPD.

The signing is the first this season for the FPD girls soccer program.

Ramirez has been an integral part to the Lady Viking soccer team throughout the years. She was on the 2011 and 2012 GHSA State Championship team and has anchored the front line as a forward for the past three seasons.

“We knew at some point she would have the opportunity to play at the next level,” head soccer coach Josh Trieste said. “I’m very excited she gets to play, hopefully, four more years.”

Ramirez has enjoyed a stellar senior season for the Lady Vikings, who are 10-1-1 and 3-0 in region play entering the weekend. Ramirez has scored 20 goals in 12 games, good for an average of over one goal per contest.

The career stats of Ramirez rank high in the Lady Viking soccer record book. She holds two of the top-10 single season goals scored: 25 in 2011 and 27 in 2012. Her 98 goals puts her in third place all-time at FPD. Ramirez is also fifth in career assists with 43.

Ramirez’s signing marks the seventh FPD senior that has signed collegiately this year. Golf’s Conner Albright and football’s Darron Moore will round out the athletic signings for the 2012-13 year in the coming weeks.

The girls soccer team travels to Savannah to play a two-day tournament on April 5-6 against Calvary Day and Savannah Arts.

The First Presbyterian Day School Department of Athletics, home to multiple region and state championships in both the GISA and GHSA, strives to build the student athlete both in the playing arena and the classroom while continuing to educate and equip students to change the world for God’s glory. Now a member of the GHSA, the Vikings have continued to provide FPD athletes, coaches, fans and spectators a positive, Christian environment on a daily basis.
