Boys Win on PK’s, Girls Win 4-1 over Brookstone

MACON, Ga. – The First Presbyterian Day School girls and boys soccer teams knew that the last area match before the GHSA State Playoffs would be important in preparing for a deep postseason run.

Fortunately for both Viking soccer squads, FPD’s toughness paid off, defeating Brookstone on Thursday night, Aprl 18 at the FPD Soccer Complex.

In the boys match, the Vikings (10-5-1, 3-1) battled Brookstone to a 0-0 draw at the end of regulation. After two overtime periods of scoreless soccer, the Vikings were able to push ahead for good on penalty-kicks after two key saves from keeper Matthew Feagin and winning the PK battle 4-2. The victory seals the no. 2 seed from the Area and gives FPD the opportunity to host a first round state playoff game.

Bradley Mullis, Conner Gettmann, Kevin Griggs and Nick Farmer all notched a PK for FPD to secure the win.

Senior keeper Jeremy Overman recorded 14 saves as Brookstone outshot FPD 14-8.

In the girls game, the Lady Vikings pushed its winning streak to eight with a 4-1 victory.

Two goals from Atalia Ramirez and a goal from both Jane Howell and Brooke Battson were enough to earn the win.

Bailey Heard, Amy Morgan and Sara Robertson were also credited with assists in the contest as the Lady Vikings outshot the Lady Cougars 22-6.

Senior keeper Claire Crawford picked up five saves in the win as well.

The FPD soccer squads return to the field on Tuesday, April 23, welcoming Central High School for Senior Night starting with the girls game at 5:30 and the boys following at 7:30 p.m. at the FPD Soccer Complex.

The First Presbyterian Day School Department of Athletics, home to multiple region and state championships in both the GISA and GHSA, strives to build the student athlete both in the playing arena and the classroom while continuing to educate and equip students to change the world for God’s glory. Now a member of the GHSA, the Vikings have continued to provide FPD athletes, coaches, fans and spectators a positive, Christian environment on a daily basis.
