Collins Perfect in Softball Win at Wikinson

IRWINTON, Ga. – Caitlin Collins can now enter the softball record book at FPD with an accomplishment that has been done just three times in school history: throwing a perfect game.

Collins blanked the Lady Warriors of Wilkinson County and FPD (14-5, 3-1 Reg. 7A) rolled to a 17-0 region victory in a run-ruling game lasting three innings.

FPD scored a whopping 15 runs in the first frame to take a commanding lead.

The Lady Vikings were led by the five RBI’s from Carli Sutton and an inside-the-park home run from Courtney Lawrence. Emily Rutledge, Jill Rogers, Lizzie Reed and Sumner Carlton each scored two runs for FPD, respectively.

The work of Collins, however, was impressive. The righty fanned six batters and allowed her defense to make the plays behind her as FPD finished with no mishaps.

Two of FPD’s three perfect games have come against Wilkinson County, the last one dating back to 2012 when Jenna Byrd (class of 2013) did so on Sept. 11. FPD’s other perfect gem was thrown against Landmark Christian in 2011 by Hannah Davis (2013).

The Lady Vikings return to the diamond on Tuesday, Sept. 24, welcoming the GMC Lady Bulldogs to the FPD Softball Complex for a key region 7A match-up.

GMC bested FPD 4-3 on Sept. 12 in Milledgeville.

First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
