Girls & Boys Cross Country Win Area 1 Meet

MACON, Ga. – The FPD girls cross country team claimed its eighth region title in school history while the boys took home their twelfth at the GHSA Class-A Area 1 Private Meet at the Georgia Children’s Home on Thursday afternoon.

The top finishes propels FPD into the GHSA State Championship on Nov. 9 at Carrolton High School.

The Lady Vikings totaled 29 points on the day and were paced by first-place runner Jessica Smith at 19:55.

Savannah Phillips came in fourth (21:30), Katie O’Quinn fifth (21:45) and McKenzie Peterson sixth (22:06) to round out the top-10 finishers for FPD.

“It feels like we are peaking at the right time,” head girls coach April Cassell said. “Hopefully we can continue running some good times at state.”

In the boys race, the Vikings tallied 30 points and were lead by the first place finish of Will Martin at 17:04.

Three other Vikings finished in the Top-10. Paul Young took third place (17:56), Sonny Bailey fourth (18:04) and Bryce Little sixth (18:14).

“We’ve worked hard all season long,” head boys coach Shane Hall said. “They guys and girls have put forth an amazing amount of effort and they all stepped up.”
