Softball Sweeps Senior Night Doubleheader

MACON, Ga. – The First Presbyterian Day School softball took both games of its scheduled doubleheader, winning the opener 17-0 in three innings vs. Twiggs County before taking the finale 13-1 over Aquinas on Thursday, Oct. 1.

Both games were part of Senior Night, as the Lady Vikings honored Mary Micah Lee and Caitlin Collins for their years of service to the softball program.

FPD’s win against Twiggs took just three innings and included an offensive outpour of 11 hits. FPD scored five runs in the first inning and added 12 in the second to earn its fourth region win of the year.

Katherine Strickland nailed her first career home run in the bottom of the second, a two-run blast to center field to seal the win for FPD.

Eight different players recorded at least one RBI for FPD, including the three RBI’s from game-leader Ashleigh Powers while Collins (3-0) recorded the win in the circle for FPD, respectively.

The Lady Vikings’ 13-1 win against Aquinas took four innings to complete, as FPD finished the sweep in style out-hitting the Fightin’ Irish 8-2.

After trailing 1-0 early on, FPD rattled off 13 unanswered runs on eight hits en route to victory.

Emily Rutledge finished off the win on a double to left field that scored Sumner Carlton and Powers.

Rutledge, Collins and Lee each recorded two RBI’s in the win and pitcher Carli Sutton (14-5) picked up the win.

The FPD Athletic Department sincerely thanks Caitlin Collins and Mary Micah Lee for their dedication to the FPD Softball program over the last four years!

The Lady Vikings travel to play Glascock County in Round One of the GHSA Region Tournament Cross-Over on Tuesday, Oct. 8. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
