Volleyball Falls in Three to Paideia in State Playoffs

MACON, Ga. – The FPD volleyball team (17-21-3) dropped its three-set match vs. Paideia in the first round of the GHSA Class-A State Playoffs 25-20, 25-16, 25-14 on Thursday night, Oct. 17.

The first set was highly-contested, with the Lady Vikings leading 13-10 at one point before falling 25-20.

In the second set, FPD fell 25-16 despite being tied 13-13 earl7 in game two.

Paideia finished off FPD in the third frame 25-14 to take the match and advance to the second round of the postseason.

Mikayla Mobley led the team in digs with 21, while Olivia Taylor notched 61 sets on the afternoon. Lizzie Lisenby recorded seven kills and four different players led the squad with two aces (Alisha Napier, Abigail Pierce, Mobley and Taylor).

The season was a memorable one for the Lady Vikings. FPD advanced to the GHSA State Playoffs for the second consecutive season, the same number of years the team has been competing at the varsity level.

The FPD Athletic Department and volleyball program sincerely thanks the Class of 2014 (Anna Smith, Olivia Taylor, Lizzie Lisenby and Callie Wilson) for their dedication to the school.

“I am very proud of the team this season,” head coach Stephanie Harrell said. “We set a really good tone for aggressive play all year. We will miss the seniors but we are really looking forward to next year and will work hard to get ready.”

The First Presbyterian Day School Department of Athletics strives to build the student athlete both in the playing arena and the classroom while upholding the school’s mission statement to educate and equip students to change the world for God’s glory as a member of the Georgia High School Association.
