Boys Basketball Wins One, Drops One

The FPD boys basketball team (1-4) picked up its first victory of the season, a thrilling 74-66 overtime win over AAAAA South Gwinnett High School at the GMC Shootout in Milledgeville on Saturday, Dec. 14.

Senior Taylor Burns nailed a three-pointer for the Vikings as time expired to send the game into the extra period.

In overtime, the Vikings outscored the Comets 12-4 to secure the win.

T.J. Sams paced the Vikings on offense, scoring 32 points while sophomore O’Showen Williams recorded a double-double of 15 points and 10 assists.

Senior Caleb Samuel also notched a double-double for FPD, scoring 11 points and snatching down 11 boards.

FPD held the advantage in three-pointers 9-8, respectively.

In Friday’s game at Harris County, the Vikings dropped a 68-65 decision to the Tigers despite leading 30-22 at halftime.

FPD’s defense sputtered in the fourth quarter, allowing Harris County 25 points to win by three.

Sams dropped in 31 points and Williams added 23 points in the loss for the Vikings.

FPD returns to action on Thursday, Dec. 19, taking on Macon’s Central High School at the Jones County Christmas Tournament in Gray at 5:30 p.m.
