Girls Basketball Wins Twice Over the Weekend

The FPD girls basketball team (11-6, 4-1 Reg. 7) posted two wins over the weekend, defeating Schley County 61-33 on Saturday, Jan. 25, after a 68-45 region victory over Twiggs County on Friday night, Jan. 24.

In FPD’s win over the Schley Lady Wildcats, FPD accounted for three players in double-figures, paced by senior Savannah Phillips’ team-high 22 points. Senior forward Lizzie Lisenby knocked in 13 points in the win while freshman Kate Patterson netted 12 points, respectively.

The Lady Vikings led 10-5 at the end of the first quarter and broke the game open in the second frame, leading 26-10 at intermission.

Schley County was led in scoring by Trenity Coleman, who poured in a game-high 24 points.

Friday’s region win over Twiggs County pushed FPD’s region record to 4-1.

Phillips notched 24 points in the win, coupled with the double-double performance from Lizzie Lisenby who secured 12 points and 12 rebounds.

With the two victories over the weekend, the Lady Vikings have won five straight, their longest winning streak of the 2013-14 campaign.

FPD returns to action on Monday night, Jan. 25, welcoming Twiggs County in a region-7 game that was postponed back on Jan. 7 due to arctic temperatures in middle Georgia.

Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Middlebrooks Ahtletic Center.
