Girls Basketball Advances in Region Tourney

WARRENTON, Ga. – The FPD girls basketball team (15-7) extended its season on Tuesday night, February 11, defeating the Warren County Screaming Lady Devils (12-14) 54-40 in the first round of the GHSA Class A Region-7 tournament.

Highlighting the win was senior guard Savannah Phillips, who notched her 1,000th career point on a made free throw in the second quarter.

Phillips wasn’t content with the made free throw though, finishing the night with a whopping 31 points, good for over half of the Lady Vikings’ points.

With her point total, Phillips now stands at 1,022 points for her career.

The Lady Vikings led 32-17 at halftime and scored 22 points in the second period to secure the win.

With the victory, FPD will play Aquinas in the region tournament semifinals.

Tip-off is scheduled on Friday night, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. at Aquinas High School in Augusta.
