Jim Turner Appreciation Night Set for April 17

MACON, Ga. – First Presbyterian Day School has announced it will host “Jim Turner Appreciation Night” on Thursday, April 17 at 6 p.m. prior to the school’s scheduled baseball game against GMC Prep at Ben Harden Memorial Field.

The ceremony will honor Turner’s legacy as baseball coach at the school over the last 25 years. He will still stay on as a faculty member and head softball coach.

Athletic Director Greg Moore says the school is preparing for a special night on campus.

“We are excited about honoring Coach Turner with a night specifically dedicated to his hard work as head baseball coach over the years,” Moore said. “We want to send him off the right way in front of his players, both present and past, family and all of Viking Nation.”

The night will feature a pre-game ceremony with former players speaking on behalf of the long-time skipper. Fans in attendance will be treated to trivia questions on Turner and some of his favorite songs over the years.

The school is encouraging all of its baseball alumni to attend the special night and to arrive early.

Turner is thankful for of the support he has encountered throughout his tenure as head baseball coach.

“It’s been my calling to be a Coach who is not conformed to the world,” Turner said. “FPD has given me the opportunity to fulfill that calling. As I look back on all the years here as a baseball coach I am grateful for the players whose lives have influenced me and vice versa.”

Turner has been synonymous with the Viking baseball program, leading the team to two state championships in 1992 and 2010. The Vikings have also claimed eight region titles under Turner’s watch.

Going into the 2014 season, Turner’s record stood at 334-187, good for a winning percentage over .640. He is enthusiastic about staying on as head softball coach following this season.

“What a blessing this has been for me,” Turner said. “The future of FPD baseball will be in good hands.”

Added Moore on Turner’s special night: “We are looking forward to this event and know it will be a great night for our school,” Moore said.
