Softball Scores Four on All-Middle Georgia Team

MACON, Ga. – Four members of the FPD softball team have been named to the Macon Telegraph’s All-Middle Georgia Softball Team, announced Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2014.

Senior Sumner Carlton, junior Peyton Worsham and sophomore Carli Sutton picked up First-Team honors while senior Courtney Lawrence was named an honorable mention.

“We are really proud of these ladies,” FPD head coach Jim Turner said. “They represent their teammates and their school well. They were a big part of our strong season in finishing as one of the best teams in the state.”

Carlton led the team with a .442 batting average in 2014. The lefty was also first on the team in hits with 38 and paced the squad in triples with three. For her exceptional work in 2014, Carlton was a GACA All-State First Team selection along with picking up All-Region 7A honors.

Worsham turned in an impressive 2014 campaign in her first season as a Lady Viking. The right-handed power pitcher finished with a 12-4 record and a team-best 0.955 ERA. She was also second on the team in strikeouts with 78 and earned spots on the GHSA All-Region and GACA All-State team.

The righty Sutton dazzled and fooled hitters all season long, leading the Lady Viking pitching staff with 14 wins and two saves. Her 80 strikeouts was also a team best. For her efforts, she picked up a spot on the GHSA All-Region 7 First Team and GACA All-State Second Team.

Lawrence, FPD’s All-Middle Georgia honorable mention selection, proved to be one of FPD’s most reliable run-producers in 2014, leading the team in RBI’s with 26. She was selected as an honorable mention earlier this year on the GACA All-State team.

“Along with these girls, our entire team produced all season,” Turner said. “Everyone is to be commended on a great year.”

The Lady Vikings finished 26-9 this past season and placed third overall in the GHSA Class-A Private State Tournament for a second consecutive year. FPD also picked up its ninth region championship in program history, a 4-3 victory over Tattnall Square Academy on Oct. 9.
