Volleyball Serves Three on All-Middle Georgia Team

MACON, Ga. – Three FPD volleyball players have been honored by the Macon Telegraph for their play during the 2014 season.

Sophomores Mackenzie Johnson and Kate Patterson and junior Abigail Pierce were named to the All-Middle Georgia Volleyball Team as Honorable Mentions, announced Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014.

“When we have players get rewarded like this, it reflects well on our entire team,” FPD head coach Sarah Futo said. “These three ladies work hard and keep getting better as their careers progress. We are really happy for them.”

Patterson was FPD’s main attack at the net in 2014, finishing the year with 62 kills, which was good for third-best on the team.

On defense, Patterson was first on the squad with 34 blocks.

Johnson, meanwhile, demonstrated to be a consistent threat while on the floor this past season, racking up 113 kills. On average, Johnson finished with 1.3 kills per set.

She also proved worthy in the dig and ace categories, finishing second on the squad with 46 digs and fourth on the team with 38 aces.

Pierce showed many in 2014 that her attacking mindset was one to be reckoned with. She totaled a team-best 62 aces and averaged nearly one ace per set. Her 132 kills was tops on the squad as was her 1.7 kills per set average.

“Our girls are motivated and they work hard,” Futo said. “We can’t wait to get started again soon.”

The Lady Vikings finished the 2014 season at 21-19 and were the GHSA Class-A Area 2 Runner-Up. FPD advanced to the GHSA Class-A State Playoffs for a third consecutive year, falling to Savannah Country Day in the first round.
