Tattnall Trojans Slide Past FPD Vikings 38-30

MACON, Ga. – A 12-2 third quarter run proved to be enough of a cushion to send the Tattnall Square Academy Trojans (17-5, 6-3 Reg. 7-A) past the Vikings (5-12, 1-8 Reg. 7-A) 38-30 on Friday night, Jan. 30 at Tattnall’s Athletic Center Gymnasium.

“Our effort is there,” FPD head coach Michael Walton said. “But we’re not translating that into the points we need to win these games. I thought we played well on defense and caused Tattnall some problems. But we didn’t knock down the shots when we had to.”

The Vikings, led by the nine points of Alex Giron, went cold from the field in the second half, shooting 5-of-19 (26.3 percent). For the game, the Vikings were 10-of-33 from the floor (30.3 percent).

The Vikings led 6-5 at the end of the first quarter and both squads went into the locker room at halftime tied at 16.

But the Vikings couldn’t push ahead in the third quarter, scoring two points on 1-of-10 shooting.

“That third quarter really hurt us,” Walton said. “We didn’t take care of the basketball to begin the quarter and the looks we got, we didn’t knock them down.”

The Trojans were led by the 15 points of Will Trevitt.  Keith Green netted six points for Tattnall, who snapped a two-game losing streak with Friday’s win.

FPD finished with six 3-pointers on the night while Tattnall dropped in four from long-range.

The Trojans capitalized from the charity stripe, hitting 14-of-22 free throws. The Vikings finished at 4-of-6 from the line.

“We had some guys tonight that played hard,” Walton said. “We have to have all of our guys play hard for 32 minutes in order to be successful.”

FPD returns to action quickly, traveling to McDonough to take on the Eagles Landing Christian Chargers on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 31.

Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
