Boys Track Takes First at Area Meet, Girls Second

MACON, Ga. – FPD has been open for 45 years.

Over half of those years have resulted in a Region Title for the varsity boys track teams.

And Viking fans can add another championship to the list.

FPD picked up its third straight Area Title and 24th in program history on Wednesday afternoon, April 22 at the GHSA Class-A Area-1 Track and Field Meet at the Dick Frame Track and Field Complex at George S. Johnson Stadium.

FPD doubled up its opponents, finishing with a total score of 219.5. The nearest competitor was Savannah Christian at 108.

“It was definitely a special day,” FPD head coach John Griffin said. “A lot of our guys set personal records. As a coach, it’s nice to see that in a big meet like this.”

FPD secured many top finishes on the day. The top four from each event advance to the GHSA Sectionals, set for Saturday, May 2 at Landmark Christian in Atlanta.

FPD’s top finishers included:

  • Torrian McSwain – 2nd – 100M Dash – 11.24; 4th – 200M Dash – 23.42
  • Jam Morris – 3rd – 100M Dash – 11.41; 2nd – Long Jump – 20-05; 1st – High Jump – 6-01
  • Barron Jones – 3rd – 200M Dash – 23.41; 4th – 400M Dash – 51.02
  • Bryce Little – 2nd – 800M Run – 2:10; 3rd – 1600M Run – 4:54
  • Trey Fountain – 5th – 800M Run – 2:16
  • Will Martin – 2nd – 1600M Run – 4:54; 1st – 3200M Run – 10:42
  • Cooper Martin – 7th – 3200M Run – 11:28
  • Jonathan Raines – 1st – 110M Hurdles – 14.83; 1st – 300M Hurdles – 40.07; 1st – Triple Jump – 42-04.25
  • Titus Moore – 2nd – 110M Hurdles – 15.73; 3rd – 300M Hurdles – 45.53

“It’s amazing to see what these guys have done this year,” Griffin said. “A lot of our guys are multi-sport athletes. Today’s finish is a testament to their work ethic. We are really proud of them.”

The Lady Vikings also secured a top finish on Wednesday.

FPD totaled 117 points to snag second place behind Stratford Academy (148).

“Our girls competed hard today,” Griffin said. “We are proud of the way they approached the meet. They gave it all they had.”
