Stratford Rallies for 5-2 Win Over FPD Baseball

MACON, Ga. – The FPD varsity baseball team (16-4, 8-4 Reg. 7A) dropped a 5-2 decision to the Stratford Academy Eagles (12-8, 6-6 Reg. 7-A) on Wednesday night, April 22 at Ben Harden Memorial Field.

The win for the Eagles evened the season series at 1-1 between the two schools as FPD grabbed a 13-1 win at Stratford on April 9.

“We didn’t take care of our business tonight,” FPD head coach Denny Bryant said. “You can afford to do that against a good team like Stratford.”

FPD actually led early in the contest, jumping out to a 1-0 advantage in the first inning when Gavin Bloodworth drove in Marshall Lyles.

The Eagles tied the game at 1-1 in the second when Jackson Pyles singled home Will Herndon.

“We were back and forth early on,” Bryant said. “We felt like we were still in it when they tied it back up.”

The Vikings took a 2-1 lead in the third inning when Kendall Friar crossed home on a fielding error by the Eagle infield.

But that was the last run the Vikings would score.

The Eagles tied the contest in the fifth on a John Michael O’Quinn that plated Jacob Culclasure.

Then in the sixth, Stratford took its first lead of the game. The Eagles scored three runs and held the Viking batters scoreless over the final two innings to claim the 5-2 victory.

“They got the hits they needed to and won the game,” Bryant said.

Connor Collins picked up the win for the Eagles while Austin Cox (7-2) was charged with the loss for FPD.

The Vikings return to action on Thursday, April 23 traveling to Mary Persons High School.

First pitch against the Bulldogs is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. in Forysth, Ga.
