Lady Vikings Advance to Quarterfinals with 3-0 Win over ELCA

MACON, Ga. – The FPD varsity girls soccer team (16-3) kept its postseason dreams alive on Tuesday night, shutting out the Eagles Landing Christian Academy Lady Chargers (9-4) 3-0 at the FPD Soccer Complex.

The victory sets up a quarterfinal match against Savannah Country Day on Friday at a time to be determined.

“We did some things right tonight and that led us to win the match,” FPD head coach Josh Trieste said. “We had a lot of things in our favor, such as getting to host and having a lot of looks at the goal.”

The Lady Vikings and Lady Chargers were scoreless for much of the first period.

But with 3:08 to go in the half, freshman Sadie Frame put the Lady Vikings on the board when she gathered a deflection off ELCA keeper Parker Pinholster and scored to give FPD a 1-0 advantage.

“We played really well,” Frame said. “It took us a little time to get in the swing of things but after the first one, we were able to settle down.”

The rest was history.

FPD posted two more scores in the second period, the first from Brooke Battson from point-blank range off an assist from Frame at the 31:35 mark followed by a Maggie Johnston goal eight yards out off a Jane Howell assist with 15:27 to play.

“It was nice to see Sadie put one on the board,” Trieste said. “Once we got that first one we were able to play our game and that really opened up opportunities for Brooke and Maggie.”

FPD controlled the tempo of the match all evening, out-shooting ELCA 22-1. Fifteen of those shots came on goal.

Now the focus shifts to the Lady Hornets of Savannah Country Day.

Frame says there is still work to be done.

“We just need to talk more and pass and possess the ball really well,” Frame said. “If we get it taken away from us, it creates an opportunity for the other team to score.”

Trieste agrees.

“They have a really solid team,” Trieste said of Savannah Country Day. “We’ll have to be sharp and find a way to keep the possession of the ball longer.”
