Softball Win Streak to Six with 19-0 Rout at Wilkinson County

IRWINTON, Ga. – The FPD varsity softball team (8-1, 2-0 Reg. 7B-A) pushed its winning streak to six games on Tuesday night with ease, defeating the Wilkinson County Lady Warriors 19-0 in three innings.

FPD out-hit Wilco. 17-1 and Peyton Worsham (4-1) picked up her fourth win of the 2015 campaign with two strikeouts on the night.

“It’s always good to get a region win,” FPD head coach Jim Turner said. “This team has been great about putting our team first before themselves and that’s why we’re off to such a great start.”

The Lady Vikings scored 12 runs in the first inning to take a commanding lead. FPD added four more in the second inning and three in the third frame to bring the run-rule into effect.

Allie Parkerson paced the Lady Vikings at the plate, going 2-for-2 and racking up three RBI. One of her hits included a 2-run home run in the first inning.

Emily Rutldge, Brooke Thomson, Karsen Ochs and Lizzie Reed also chipped in offensively with two RBI each.

“Any time you can get your offense going early, you give yourself a chance to win obviously,” Turner said. “We did that today.”

In FPD’s current season, the Lady Vikings have recorded three shutouts, run-ruled opponents four times and outscored opponents 82-11.

“There’s still room to get better, though” Turner said. “Our girls know that and that’s what we’re going to keep trying to do.”

The Lady Vikings are back in action on Thursday afternoon, August 27, hosting the Stratford Academy Eaglettes at 4:30 p.m. at the FPD Softball Complex in a GHSA Region 7-A contest.

Stratford (10-2, 1-0 Reg. 7-A) defeated Mount de Sales 16-0 on Tuesday night at Cavalier Fields.

The Lady Vikings defeated the Eaglettes twice in 2014, claiming a 6-1 win at Stratford on Aug. 28 before winning 5-4 at the FPD Softball Complex on Sept. 18.
