FPD to Honor 1974 Undefeated Football Team on Friday, Sept. 25

MACON, Ga. – Finishing a season undefeated is quite an accomplishment in the sporting world at any level.

Having it hold as a school record for four decades is equally, if not, more impressive.

And on Friday night, Sept. 25, FPD is planning to honor members on the 1974 undefeated varsity football team. That season, the Vikings finished the year 10-0 under former head coach Philip McLeroy.

“We hope as many people who were on that team – from players, to cheerleaders and managers – can make it back for what will truly be a special night on our campus,” FPD Athletic Director and head football coach Greg Moore said. “Those are the guys that helped set some of the traditions we still follow to this day and that we all look back on in our schools’ history as a definite proud moment.”

The squad will be invited to a pre-game dinner at 6 p.m. at the Wilson-Anderson Family Pavilion.

Then, just after 7 p.m., the team will be escorted out on the field to be recognized in front of the home crowd. During the coin toss at 7:25 p.m., the 1974 team members will serve as honorary captains prior to kickoff vs. Lincoln County.

“We think it’s important as part of the FPD family to acknowledge those who have made a positive impact to our school in the past,” Moore said. “This team is certainly one of many who have done so.”

Fans are encouraged to be in their seats just after 7 p.m. for the on-field ceremony.

Further details about the 1974 team will be revealed at the game.
