Volleyball Goes 2-0 at Home with Area Wins Over Mitchell County and Pacelli

MACON, Ga. – After two tough Area-2 losses followed by a road trip split resulting in a 1-3 record last week, FPD head coach Sarah Futo wanted to see how her team would respond on Tuesday night, Sept. 22.

She got her answer quickly: positively.

The Lady Vikings (19-12, 4-2 Area-2) moved over .500 in Area-2 play with a 2-0 (25-9/25-9) victory over the Mitchell County Lady Eagles followed by a 2-0 (25-11/25-12) win over Pacelli at the Middlebrooks Athletic Center.

“I thought we played with a lot of energy and enthusiasm,” Futo said. “We just came out focused, stuck to our game plan and finished the games off like I know we have the ability to do.

In the match against the the Lady Eagles, Amelia Squires fired off seven kills to lead FPD’s attack. The Lady Vikings totaled 19 kills in the match alone.

Bailey Ruble dropped in four aces while Caitlin Farr tacked on three.

“We played pretty sharp I thought,” Futo said. “We played like we wanted to prove to ourselves that last week we left a lot out on the court, and I’m proud of them for that mentality.”

FPD finished the night with a win over Pacelli.

Lundy Lader and Abigail Pierce teamed up for a combined eight kills, while Pierce notched five aces. Mackenzie Johnson also dropped in four dimes.

“Getting these Area wins is crucial for seeding in the tournament,” Futo said. “We still have a lot of work to do but I know our girls are up for the challenge as we approach the end of the regular season.”

FPD returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 24, hosting Griffin High School at 5 p.m. and Pike County at 7 p.m.

Griffin and Pike will square off at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
