Baseball Takes Down Stratford 5-3 in Key Region 7-A Contest

MACON, Ga. – After falling to Stratford Academy earlier this week, the FPD Vikings (8-3, 2-1 Reg. 7-A) were determined to get back on the diamond and answer the right way.

On Friday night, the Vikings did that, defeating the Eagles (5-3, 1-1 Reg. 7-A) 5-3 at Ben Harden Memorial Field to split the regular season series at 1-1 with each team winning on its home turf.

The Vikings jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Gavin Bloodworth hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Ryan Jones for a 1-0 lead.

But the Eagles answered right back in the top of the second caused on two infield errors by the Vikings.

Will Herndon tied the game at 1-1 on a throwing error by Viking starting pitcher Austin Hartley followed by a run by Aaron Arnold on a Josh Davis fielder’s choice for a 2-1 advantage.

FPD retook the lead in the bottom half of the second when Jack Sawyer singled to center field to plate Garrett West for a 3-2 lead.

The Vikings then doubled their lead in the third on a Bo Fricks double that brought home Bloodworth, who reached on an error earlier in the inning.

FPD scored its final run of the game on a wild pitch that plated Sawyer for a 5-2 lead.

Stratford tacked on a run in the top of the fifth when Clifton Olmstead hit an infield single to score Jamison Ames to make it a 5-3 game.

Austin Hartley picked up the win for the Vikings on the mound, tossing five innings, allowing three runs (one earned) with five strikeouts. West earned a two-inning save with three strikeouts while giving up one hit.

George Lind took the loss for the Eagles.

FPD returns to action on Monday, March 14, hosting the Mary Persons Bulldogs at Ben Harden Memorial Field.

First pitch is scheduled for 5:55 p.m.
