Girls Soccer Opens 2016 Viking Cup with 8-1 Win Over West Laurens

MACON, Ga. – The FPD varsity girls soccer team (2-0) opened the 2016 Viking Cup with a whopping 8-1 victory over the West Laurens High School Lady Raiders on Friday night at the FPD Soccer Complex.

The win sets up a match Saturday afternoon against Augusta Prep at 12:30 p.m.

FPD totaled plenty of offense while holding West Laurens to a a goal late in the match.

Karseten Herron paced FPD with a hat trick of three goals. Jansyn Samples, Maggie Johnston, Emma Lako, Sadie Fram and Kennedy Cauley all scored goals for the Lady Vikings.

The lone goal for West Laurens came via the foot of Katelynn Bowers.

The Lady Vikings shared the soccer ball well too, totaling six assists.

Kate Patterson picked up a pair of assists while Johnston, Jansyn Samples, Elizabeth Nelson and Mia Ferro each picked up an assist.

FPD keeper Caylee Ann Sutton picked up the win, but recorded no saves. West Laurens goalie tandem of Harrison Martin and Peyton Davis finished with two saves combined.

The Lady Vikings held the shot advantage 17-9.
