Varsity Football Releases 2016 Schedule

MACON, Ga. – FPD head football coach Greg Moore released the 2016 varsity football schedule today, April 15, with plenty of games to excite Viking Nation for the upcoming season.

“We are excited to release our schedule to everyone and look forward to bettering our program,” Moore said. “There are a lot of games that should peak a lot of interest this season.”

After a scrimmage against Central High School on August 12, the Vikings will open the season on a rare Saturday night. On August 27, the Vikings will officially kickoff the 2016 season against Howard at Mercer University’s Five Star Stadium at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Macon Touchdown Club Middle Georgia Gridiron Classic. (The other teams involved include Central and Mount de Sales.)

The month of September sees the Vikings play four times, the first on Friday, Sept. 2 at The Brookstone School in Columbus, Ga. at 7:30 p.m. The last time the Vikings and Cougars met was in the first round of the GHSA Class-A Private State Playoffs in 2012, with FPD coming away with the victory on the road 49-33.

On Sept. 9, the Vikings will host Class-A Public powerhouse Hawkinsville High School for the first home game of the season at Austin Childers Field at George S. Johnson Stadium. The Red Devils claimed the 2014 Class-A Public State Championship just two seasons ago.

Sept. 18 will see the Vikings hit the road to Warren County followed by an open week on Sept. 23.

The Vikings will finish out September with the start of Sub-Region 7-A play against the Twiggs County Cobras in Jeffersonville, Ga. at 7:30 p.m.

The beginning of October will bring three straight home games to Viking fans, all three of which are sub-region contests.

Homecoming 2016 will take place on Friday, Oct. 7 against the Wilkinson County Warriors at 7:30 p.m.

Oct. 14 will bring excitement to campus as FPD hosts its longtime arch-rival in the Stratford Academy Eagles at 7:30 p.m.

FPD rounds out its three-game home stand on Oct. 21 on Senior Night 2016 against the Tattnall Square Academy Trojans.

The Vikings will close out the regular season on Oct. 28 with a sub-region match at Mount de Sales at 7:30 p.m. followed by the Region-7A Crossover game on Nov. 4.

“This schedule adds some very competitive non-region games to our already-tough sub-region contests,” Moore said. “I think Viking Nation will enjoy following the team through this schedule – home and away.”

FPD finished 6-5 in 2015 and advanced to the GHSA Class-A State Playoffs for a fifth consecutive season.
