Athletic Department Finishes Second in GHSA Class-A Regions Directors Cup Standings

MACON, Ga. – After a thrilling year of competition, the FPD Athletic Department has racked up one more high accolade to end the 2015-16 academic year.

FPD has finished second overall in the Georgia Athletic Director’s Association (GADA) Regions Director’s Cup, the highest of any central Georgia Class-A school and the highest in all of Class-A Private, totaling 943.5 points. The mark stands just behind overall winner Commerce at 980 points.

The standings are determined from finishes from both male and female sports throughout the school year and points are awarded based on each teams’ finish.

“This is a great honor for our school,” FPD Athletic Director Greg Moore said. “Our student-athletes keep wanting to get better and are doing everything they can do to work hard and pursue their athletic goals. All the credit goes to our players and the great coaches we have on staff.”

As a whole, FPD finished ahead of Stratford (third place, 932.5), Trion (fourth, 906) and Eagles Landing Christian (fifth, 882.5).

The Lady Vikings finished third in the female standings with 482.5 points while the Vikings took fourth overall with 461.

Six of FPD’s varsity boys sports (baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf and tennis) advanced to GHSA Class-A Private State Tournament action. The highest finish came from the varsity boys golf team, who finished as the GHSA Class-A Private Runner-Up.

The varsity boys tennis team advanced to GHSA Semifinal play and the cross country team captured an Area Championship en route to a berth in the GHSA Class-A State Meet. The varsity baseball, basketball and football teams also advanced to postseason play.

The varsity girls totaled eight teams in the GHSA Class-A State Tournament: basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track & field and volleyball.

The highest finish for the Lady Vikings in the state tournament came via the varsity softball team, who took third place in the GHSA Class-A Private State Tournament in Columbus, Ga. The varsity girls soccer team advanced to the Elite Eight and the cross country squad also advanced to the GHSA State Meet. The varsity girls golf squad took fourth at the GHSA State Tournament.

The varsity girls basketball, tennis, track & field and volleyball teams also made appearances in GHSA State Tournaments.

“We celebrate this high finish with excitement and with thanks to our good Lord above. We also look forward to what the 2016-17 year will bring to us,” Moore said. “Hats off to everyone who played a part in making this past athletic year one to remember.”
