Volleyball Splits at Home with Strong Rock and Lee County

MACON, Ga. – The FPD varsity volleyball team (3-3) split its home matches against Strong Rock and Lee County on Tuesday night, August 23, at the Middlebrooks Athletic Center.

The Lady Vikings took the first match of the evening over the Strong Rock Lady Patriots 2-0 [25-17/25-22] before falling 0-2 [25-16/28-26] to the Lee County Lady Trojans.

“I thought we came out a little slow against Strong Rock, but as the match went on we got better and we were able to secure the win,” FPD head coach Sarah Futo said. “Our girls got did the things we have been practicing on to seal the win.”

The Lady Vikings were led by the four kills, four aces, two digs and one block of Mackenzie Johnson.

Kirsten Beach also notched four kills while Caitlin Farr totaled three aces and Morgan Mullis finished with five digs.

In the second match of the night, the Lady Vikings ran into a strong Lee County Lady Trojan squad.

After dropping the first game 16-25, the Lady Vikings rallied in the second game to force extra points after being down 24-21. Tied at 25, Lee County would outscore FPD 3-1 over the final four points to secure the match.

“I thought our effort was great in the second game,” Futo said. “We just came out slow in the first game. Lee County is a very fast and aggressive team, so we dug ourselves into an early hole we couldn’t get out of. But I’m really proud of our effort overall.”

Lundy Lader paced FPD with seven kills against Lee County while Johnson tacked on six of her own.

Bailey Ruble and Johnson each had two aces while Emily Cox led the team with three digs.

The Lady Vikings return to action quickly, hosting West Laurens and Warner Robins on Thursday, August 25 at the Middlebrooks Athletic Center.

First serve is set for 5 p.m.
