Softball Downs Tattnall Square 2-1 in Region Road Victory

MACON, Ga. – Lady Viking pitcher Karsen Ochs (8-1) totaled seven strikeouts and held the no. 3 rated Tattnall Square Academy Lady Trojans (12-3, 3-1 Reg. 7-A) to just five hits en route to a 2-1 GHSA Class-A Private Region-7 victory on Thursday night, Sept. 8 on the road.

The no. 5 rated Lady Vikings (12-3, 3-0 Reg. 7-A) jumped on the Lady Trojans early in the first inning.

After a Karsen Ochs single to lead off the game and a sacrifice bunt by Emily Rutledge to move Ochs to second, Amanda Evans smacked a single off Tattnall pitcher Ashleigh Morton up the middle to score Ochs to give FPD a 1-0 lead.

Two innings later and with the bases loaded, Carli Sutton singled home Rutledge for a 2-0 Lady Viking advantage.

Ochs mowed her way throughout the contest, littering just five hits in the win. Morton did the same for the Lady Trojans in a classic pitcher’s duel.

The Lady Trojans made the game interesting, attempting to rally in their last at bat in the bottom of the seventh.

With runners on the corners and one out, Ochs got Allie Gordon to fly out to center field for the second out of the inning.

The clean-up batter Kenna Epps stepped in the box and battled Ochs for 10 pitches, teh final pitch resulting in an infield single to plate Kristen Johnson for a 2-1 FPD lead.

Again with runners on the corners, it was up to Tattnall’s Carly Ingle to prolong the inning.

But Ochs induced a ground out to win the game and the Lady Vikings held on for the 2-1 victory.

The Lady Vikings out-hit the Lady Trojans 10-5 in the contest. FPD left eight runners on base while Tattnall abandoned 10.

With the win, FPD moves into first place in Region 7-A and is now 5-3 all-time against Tattnall Square in the GHSA era.

The Lady Vikings return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 13, traveling across town to take on long-time rival Stratford Academy.

First pitch against the Eaglettes is scheduled for 7 p.m.
