COLUMBUS BOUND! Softball Bests Holy Innocents 6-0, Take Series 2-1 to Advance to Elite Eight

MACON, Ga. – After dropping Game One in its best-of-three game series against the Holy Innocents Golden Bears (12-13) 5-2, the FPD Lady Vikings (27-5) rallied to take Game Two in four innings 17-0 on Wednesday to force a decisive Game Three.

And in Game Three on Thursday afternoon at the FPD Softball Complex, the Lady Vikings slammed the door on the Golden Bears for good with a 6-0 shutout victory to advance to the GHSA Class-A Private Elite Eight for a fourth consecutive season.

The three-day, double-elimination event will take place Thursday-Saturday, Oct. 27-29, in Columbus, Ga. at the South Commons Softball Complex.

On Thursday against the Golden Bears, the Lady Vikings got on the board quickly when Allie Parkerson drilled a two-run home run to left-center for a 2-0 lead.

After two scoreless innings, FPD added one run in both the fourth and fifth innings and sealed the deal with two scores in the sixth.

In the fourth, Caylee Ann Sutton crossed home on a throwing error by the Golden Bear infield to give the Lady Vikings a 3-0 lead.

In the fifth, Amanda Evans hit a sacrifice fly to right field to plate Parkerson to extend FPD’s lead to 4-0.

The final two runs of the game came in the bottom of the sixth, the first on an Emily Rutledge single to plate Katie Culver followed by a passed ball that allowed Sutton to score for a 6-0 advantage.

Karsen Ochs (16-2), who totaled six strikeouts in the win, retired the side in order in the top of the seventh with the final out coming on a ground out to first.
