Football Snaps Losing Streak, Pounds Mt. de Sales 47-0

MACON, Ga. – After back-to-back frustrating losses to in-town rivals Stratford and Tattnall Square, the FPD Vikings (6-3, 2-3 Reg. 7-A) got back in the win column on Friday night, Oct. 28, pounding the Mount de Sales Academy Cavaliers (2-7, 0-5 Reg. 7-A) 47-0 in Region 7 action at Sister Elizabeth Lowman Field at Mike Garvin Stadium.

FPD’s passing offense caused problems all evening for Mt. de Sales. The Vikings and quarterback Dalton Cox threw for 316 yards and six touchdowns in the lop-sided victory.

Armaun Smith paced the Viking receivers with three touchdowns, while Titus Moore and Maurice Gordon each hauled in two and one, respectively.

The Vikings broke the 0-0 barrier at the 5:58 mark of the first quarter when C.J. Harris rushed in a 6-yard touchdown and Andrei Parrish nailed the extra point for a 7-0 lead.

The rest of the FPD’s scores came via the pass.

Cox found Moore for a 57-yard score with 2:26 to play in the first period and Parrish made the PAT for a 14-0 lead.

In the second quarter, Cox threw for three touchdowns, two going to Armaun Smith (53 yards and eight yards) and the other to Maurice Gordon (27 yards).

FPD led at halftime 34-0.

In the second half, FPD added two more touchdowns.

Moore hauled in a 60-yard reception with 11:42 to play in the third quarter, but the extra point failed to give FPD a 40-0 lead and a running clock the rest of the contest.

FPD’s final score came with 3:11 on the clock in the third quarter when Cox found Smith for the final time on a 28-yard touchdown. Parrish made the extra point and FPD led 47-0.

With reserves in for the final quarter, both teams went scoreless with the clock running the entire quarter.

FPD totaled 579 yards of offense on the night while the Viking defense limited Mt. de Sales to just 163 yards from scrimmage.

Robert Johnson and Torrian Bradley-McSwain each grabbed an interception from Cavalier quarterback Pickney Gilchrest.

FPD totaled 14 first downs on the night while Mt. de Sales finished with eight.

The shutout is FPD’s second this season. The Viking bested Hawkinsville 56-0 back on Sept. 9 at Austin Childers Field.

The Vikings are back in action next Friday night in the GHSA Class-A Region-7 crossover game.
