Baseball Blasts Perry Panthers 13-3 in 2017 Home Opener

MACON, Ga. – The FPD varsity baseball team (4-2) pushed its winning streak to two games on Thursday night, Feb. 23, defeating the 4A Perry Panthers (3-4) 13-3 in five innings in the 2017 home opener at Ben Harden Memorial Field.

The game was tied at 3-3 with the Vikings batting in the bottom of the fourth when Michael Bakkar tripled off of Payton Sells to drive in three runs.

The triple was part of an eight-run inning for FPD in the fourth frame to put the game away for good.

Tyler Mimbs drove in five runs to pace the FPD offensive attack, going 3-for-3 at the plate. Mimbs drove in runs on a single in the second, a single in the fourth, and a double in the fifth.

Noah Takac picked up the win on the mound for the Vikings, tossing three innings, allowing three runs, four hits, and striking out two.

The Vikings scored three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to bring the run-rule into effect.

Payton Sells took the loss for Perry. He threw four innings, giving up nine runs, 12 hits, and striking out two.

Garrett West started the game for FPD. He went two innings, allowing zero runs, two hits, striking out two, and walking zero.

The Viking offense totaled 15 hits throughout the contest. Bakkar, Mimbs, Gavin Bloodworth, Ryan Jones, Dalton Cox, and Brett McHugh each collected multiple hits for the Vikings. Mimbs also led the way with two steals for the Vikings.

Jackson Farrell went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Perry in hits.

The Vikings return to the field on Tuesday, Feb. 28, hosting the Wilkinson County Warriors to open up Region 7-1A play.

First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Ben Harden Memorial Field.
