Baseball Takes Road Contest at George Walton, 8-1

MONROE, Ga. – The FPD varsity baseball team (3-2) snapped a two-game losing streak by defeating the George Walton Academy Buldogs (1-4) 8-1 on Wednesday night, Feb. 22, on the road.

The Vikings wasted little time scoring, leading 1-0 at the end of the first inning.

Michael Bakkar gave FPD the lead with a single to plate Garrett West.

After two scoreless frames, the Vikings added two runs in the top of the fourth inning for a 3-0 advantage.

After singles by Ryan Jones and Bakkar, Gavin Bloodworth smashed a double to center field to bring both runners to the dish.

The Bulldogs scored their lone run of the contest in the bottom of the fourth on a Charlie Ritter RBI single to plate Brennan Carter to make it a 3-1 contest.

FPD’s bats weren’t finished, though.

The Vikings added three more runs in the top of the fifth inning for a commanding 6-1 lead.

Bakkar singled home Brett McHugh followed by a two-run error by Bulldog pitcher Cason Brown that allowed West and Jones to score.

The Vikings plated two more insurance runs in the top of the seventh as well.

George Walton relief pitcher balked home West before Bloodworth drove in Jones on a single to right field.

Austin Hartley picked up the win on mound for FPD tossing 6.1 innings while allowing one run on four hits while striking out eight batters.

Brown was charged with the loss.

The Vikings return to action on Thursday, Feb. 23, for the 2017 home opener against the Perry High School Panthers.

The Vikings took down Perry 9-8 back on Feb. 15 in eight innings.

First pitch is set for 6 p.m. on Thursday at Ben Harden Memorial Field.
