Lady Vikings Take Down Dublin 11-0, Vikings Fall 5-4 in Season Opener

MACON, Ga. – The FPD varsity soccer teams split its season-opening matches against the Dublin Fighting Irish on Thursday night, Feb. 16, at the FPD Soccer Complex.

The Lady Vikings (1-0) defeated Dublin in convincing fashion 11-0 while the Vikings (0-1) dropped a 5-4 decision.

In the varsity girls match, Elizabeth Nelson paced the Lady Vikings with four goals. Alyssa Dubose added three goals while Jansyn Samples punched in two. Mia Ferro and Lindsey Strickland each finished with one score as well.

The Lady Vikings needed just one half to score over 10 goals to bring the mercy rule into effect.

Olivia McMickle, Ferro, Dubose and Samples each had one assist in the victory as the Lady Vikings out-shot Dublin 28-1.

Caylee Ann Sutton finished with one save for FPD while Ashley Spitzmiller racked up 10 for Dublin.

The Vikings led 3-2 at halftime over the Fighting Irish but were outscored 2-1 in the second period.

Moses Simmons led Dublin with two goals while Aaron Wallace, Tim Willis and Tyler Strickland accounted for one each.

Robert Johnson led the Viking offense with two goals. Dane Wiggins and Noah Lyu each had one.

Both keepers were kept on their toes during the match. Cadarious Mack picked up nine saves for Dublin in the winning bid. FPD’s Josh Raines tallied seven caroms.

FPD out-shot Dublin 20-18 on the night despite the loss.

The Vikings and Lady Vikings return to action next Thursday, Feb. 23, hosting Macon County at the FPD Soccer Complex.

Opening kick for the varsity boys match is set for 5:30 p.m. with the varsity girls to follow at 7:30 p.m.
