Baseball Drops PG Tournament Opener v. Troup County, 18-8

EMERSON, Ga. – The first day of the Perfect Game High School Tournament did not fare well for the FPD Vikings (8-3), who fell 18-8 in five innings to the 4A Troup County Tigers (9-3) at the Lake Point Baseball Complex.

The Tigers scored in every inning of action and led 4-0 at the end of the first inning.

Ryan Bliss doubled in two runs for a 2-0 Tiger advantage followed by a Cooper Doughman RBI single for a 3-0 lead. The final run of the inning came when Jarred Helton reached on a Viking infield error to score Trent Bailey.

In the bottom of the third, the Tigers pounced again, scoring three runs for a 7-0 lead.

Kinley Bridwell scored on a FPD passed ball to take an 5-0 advantage followed by another Vikings miscue in the field to plate Bliss to lead 6-0.

Troup County made it 7-0 on a Bailey single that brought home Colby Williams.

FPD answered with four runs in the fourth inning.

Gavin Bloodworth double home Garrett West early in the inning to make it a 7-1 contest.

After Ryan Jones scored on a wild pitch for a 7-2 game, the Vikings brought two more runs across on a Tyler Mimbs single to plate Bloodoworth and Dalton Cox for a 7-4 game.

In the bottom half of the third, the Tigers plated two more runs for a 9-4 lead.

Tavarous Truitt single home Helton followed by a Bridwell sacrifice fly to to center field to plate Truitt.

The Vikings pulled within three in the top of the fourth for a 9-6 contest.

West grounded out with the bases loaded to score Harrison Aulds and Jones grounded out to plate Brett McHugh.

The Tigers, however, outscored FPD 9-2 over the final two innings to bring the run-rule into effect to take the win.

FPD returns to action on Friday, March 10, for day two of the PG Tournament. Opponent and game time will be announced on Friday.
