Boys and Girls Soccer Sweep Stratford Academy on the Road in Area-2 Play

MACON, Ga. – The FPD varsity boys and girls soccer teams picked up road victories over Stratford Academy on Thursday night, March 23, in GHSA Class-A, Area-2 action.

In the boys contest, the Vikings (5-4-3) battled to a 0-0 tie at the end of regulation and overtime periods.

The match was forced to go to penalty kicks, with FPD prevailing 4-3 over the Eagles (2-7-1).

FPD’s PK’s were made by Henry Midlebrooks, Dane Wiggins, Austin Cox and Stephen Summerow.

The Eagles out-shot the Vikings 16-9 in the match.

Joshua Raines totaled eight saves, including one during penalty kicks, to give the Vikings the victoy.

In the girls match, the Lady Vikings (12-0) secured the sweep with a 3-1 win over the Eaglettes (6-1).

FPD led 2-0 at halftime with goals from Emma Lako and Elizabeth Nelson.

Lako and Patterson also added an assist in the first half of play.

In the second period, Elizabeth Nelson struck again for her second goal of the match.

Stratford’s Emory Sutherland punched in one goal as well.

Sutherland’s goal is the first the FPD defense has allowed in 12 matches in 2017.

The Lady Vikings out-shot the Eaglettes 14-11.

FPD keeper Caylee Ann Sutton picked up five saves in the winning bid.

Both squads are back on the pitch after the spring break holiday, taking on Manchester on Tuesday, April 4.

Kickoff for the guys match is at 5:30 p.m. with the girls to follow at 7:30 p.m. at the FPD Soccer Complex.
