Girls Soccer Claims 2017 Viking Cup Over Howard while Boys Draw

MACON, Ga.– The FPD varsity girls and boys soccer teams closed out the 2017 Viking Cup on Friday, March 3, at the Girardeau Field House at the FPD Soccer Complex against the Howard High School Lady Huskies and Huskies.

In the girls match, the Lady Vikings (5-0) claimed the 2017 Girls Viking Cup Championship with a 5-0 shutout over the Lady Huskies.

The Lady Vikings have shutout all opponents thus far on the 2017 campaign while scoring 44 goals in five matches.

Jansyn Samples netted a hat trick in Friday’s match with three goals while teammate Emma Lako knocked in two.

Lako and Mia Ferro also had one assist each in the victory.

The Lady Viking defense did the rest, holding Howard to just four shots in the match. FPD finished with 17.

FPD keeper Caylee Ann Sutton picked up two saves in the winning bid.

In the nightcap, the Vikings (2-1-2) fought to a 0-0 tie with the Huskies.

The Vikings had plenty of opportunities on offense, rattling off 19 shots. FPD held Howard to just five shots.

The Lady Vikings and Vikings are back on the pitch Tuesday, March 7, hosting St. Anna Pacelli in a key Area-2 match-up.

Kickoff for the varsity girls match is set for 5:30 p.m. with the varsity boys to follow at 7:30 p.m.
