Viking Volleyball Looks To Continue Hot Start in Area Play

Viking Volleyball has been on a recent roll over the last two weeks winning 6 of their last 9 matches but more importantly they swept Tattnall Square (25-11, 25-12) and Aquinas (25-23, 25-9) who are two area opponents in their first area matches of the season.

In those two area wins last week for the Vikings seniors Caitlin Farr and Lundy Lader along with sophomore Emily Cox combined for 29 kills.  Farr would also lead the Vikings with 9 aces and 8 digs. Other contributors to the sweeps were sophomore Anna Massey with 8 aces, and senior Sophie Seneker with 6 digs.

Head Coach Sarah Futo was extremely happy with her entire teams performance. “The girls really focused in together and knew they needed to secure those wins this week. They are showing a renewed sense of focus and discipline in practice and it is showing on the court in their play.”

The Vikings will be busy this week and next. They travel today to Mount De Sales looking to continue to stay unbeaten in area play with the first match scheduled for 6pm. They return home for senior night tomorrow Tuesday Sept. 26 to take on Stratford in another area match. Seniors Caitlin Farr, Lundy Lader and Sophie Seneker will be honored following the conclusion of the match. They’ll end the week on Thursday by traveling to take on Perry in a non-area match.

Next week they’ll wrap up their regular season on Tuesday Oct. 3rd at West Laurens before hosting the area volleyball tournament Oct. 8th. That schedule will be announced in the coming days.
