FPD Football Sets Records and Returns To 2nd Round Of GHSA-Playoffs

The FPD Viking Football team this season created a family bond off the field that translated to success on the field statistically and on the scoreboard. Head Coach Greg Moore urged them to focus on the details and when things got tough to “bow their neck.” The results were evident as the Vikings not only set numerous records statistically but also returned to the GHSA Class-A Private playoffs again.

The Vikings finished the 2017 season with 8 wins, which was their most since the 2011 season and two of those wins were against rival Tattnall, who they defeated in overtime in the regular season 41-35 and again in the first round of the playoffs 49-28.  The Vikings for the second consecutive year would advance to the second round of the GHSA-Class-A Private Playoffs.

The Vikings on offense were led by Senior Quarterback Dalton Cox, who was named Region 7-A Offensive Player of The Year. Cox completed 62% of his passes, while throwing for over 2900 yards along with 30 touchdowns which is first in Viking Football History. His main target Senior Titus Moore caught 76 of his passes tying him for the all-time single-season record of receptions and received for 1,476 yards and 15 touchdowns that is the new touchdown reception record. The Vikings offense finished the season averaging over 39 points per game.

Defensively the Vikings would force 16 turnovers during the course of the season and when they forced at least one turnover their record was 7-2.  They were led by Senior Linebacker Ryan Jones, who led the team in tackles-assists with 110 which is third all-time in Viking Football History. The Viking secondary that consisted of Seniors Maurice Gordon, Robert Johnson, Titus Moore, and Josh Raines would combine for 8 interceptions and two defensive touchdowns of their own.
