FPD Introduces Viking Tennis Academy

FPD is excited to introduce the Viking Tennis Academy, a new tennis training program on FPD’s campus for students ages 5 to 15 and adults. After-school group training will be offered for students while adults can participate in weekly morning programs. Mid-day options are also available for community homeschool students.

“We started discussing the idea for an on-campus tennis academy while we were still in the design stages of the new FPD tennis courts,” said FPD Head Tennis Coach Derek Lashley. “The eight new courts provide a convenient venue for lessons for our students as well as the community.”

Community instructor Bobby Walker will lead the program. Walker, a native of Macon, is a USPTA certified professional with 38 years of experience. Throughout his career, he has coached 75 players who received college tennis scholarships and is considered a national expert on ten and under tennis.

“It is an honor to have Bobby coach on our campus,” remarked Lashley. “He has a tremendous amount of experience with youth tennis and is an all-around great coach. The Viking Tennis Academy is going to be a wonderful addition for FPD students and the entire community.”

The Viking Tennis Academy will grow the love of tennis in new and current tennis players through sharpening their skills and techniques in a fun, challenging, and competitive environment. Two six-week sessions are offered; one starting in September 10 and one starting October 29. Students will participate on select days each week based on their age group and conclude each session with a small tournament.
