Lady Vikings Face Hebron Christian in Sweet 16

The Lady Vikings Softball Team concluded Coach Denny Bryant’s second year at the helm as the 2018 7A Region-Runner-up with a 15-5 record and were power ranked #1 heading into the GHSA Class-A Private Playoffs. However, due to GHSA Power Ranking rules all private region champs were bumped ahead of the Lady Vikings, but they were still able to secure a first round bye with the number three overall seed.

The Lady Vikings regular season schedule has prepared them for the sweet 16 game as they look to make the return trip to Columbus for the Elite Eight and GHSA Class-A Private Championship. Seven opponents on their schedule made their classifications playoffs with five of them advancing to the Sweet 16 including three from their own region who also received first round byes in the GHSA Class-A Private Playoffs.

Offensively this team has been barreling up the ball at the plate all-season. Last year’s Final Four team only had seven home-runs, but this squad has 15 heading into the playoffs led by Senior Karsen Ochs and Sophomore Olivia Parker who both have seven. Other top hitters for the Lady Vikings include Junior Cardin Weaver who is hitting .339 and in 69 plate appearances has only struck out three times. Senior Moe Register who is hitting .367 with a home-run and Junior Allison Hammock, who has seen the second most pitches in the batter’s box with her plate discipline allowing her to extend the innings with some key walks and timely hits.

Inside the circle, South Carolina commit Karsen Ochs has been the workhorse for the Lady Vikings pitching 112 innings heading into the today’s games against Hebron Christian. She broke her own school record from last season and sits at 193 strikeouts, which also means in her Strike Out For Hunger Campaign she has raised over $2700 with each strike out worth over $20.

The 2018 Lady Vikings are an exciting group to watch every time they take the field and they’ll take it again this afternoon for game one at 3:30pm. The second game will start 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one. If they split the games this afternoon they’ll return tomorrow for the deciding game three with first pitch at 3:30pm.
