April Cassell

Head Girls Cross Country & Girls Track Coach April Cassell

April Cassell begins her fifth year as the FPD varsity girls cross country head coach and ninth year overall at FPD

Cassell graduated from Monroe Academy in Forsyth and attended Kennesaw State University where she played basketball and ran cross country.

Cassell earned a B.S. in Health and Physical Education (K-12) from KSU along with a Masters in Kinesiology from Georgia Southern University.

Cassell taught at Monroe Academy from 1994-2003 and then taught at Perry Middle School from 2003-2004.

She is no stranger to FPD, having served as a coach on the varsity softball, basketball and track  & field teams.

In 2009, Cassell became Head Girls Track and Cross Country Coach.

The cross country team has seen great success under Cassell, winning the GISA State Title in 2009 and 2010 as well as garnering a region title in 2009. In 2012, Cassell led FPD to a sixth place finish at the GHSA State Meet.

In the GHSA, the Lady Vikings have had continued success under Cassell as the head track & field coach, taking home a region championship in 2011 and a third place region finish with a fourth place overall finish in 2011 in the state. The Vikings also placed fifth overall in 2012 at the GHSA Class A State Track Championships and earned a spot in the state meet in 2013.

In the GHSA, the Lady Vikings have had three Region Championships (2010, 2011, 2012), a State Runner-Up finish (2010), and a third place State finish (2011) in Cross Country.

Cassell is married to Cass Cassell, and currently lives in Forsyth with their three dogs-Maggie, Muddy, and Howie, and their two cats, Hermes and Baby Girl.

In her spare time, Cassell enjoys running and playing golf, mountain biking, and taking road trips.

The Cassells attend First Baptist Church in Barnesville, and are involved in Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Lighthouse Retreat.
