NCAA Eligibility

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has announced a change in Division-I student-athletes enrolling in college in August 2016 or later by requiring a minimum 2.3 grade-point-average (GPA) to meet eligibility requirements.

The GPA is required in core classes to compete in your first year of college.

Student-athletes must also earn a combined SAT or ACT score that matches one’s core course GPA on the sliding scale.

The FPD Athletic Department will continue to emphasize the importance of work in the classroom as well as in the athletic arena.

“It’s important for our student-athletes to monitor and understand their academic progress as they prepare for opportunities that may come along as they get ready to graduate,” FPD Athletic Director Greg Moore said. “The changes the NCAA is making speak loud and clear to all that we are educating students first, and being an athlete is a privilege earned first in the classroom.”

Added Moore: “We will continue to make sure our student-athletes know what the minimum requirements are while motivating them to do above and beyond those requirements in the classroom and on the field or court.

The First Presbyterian Day School Department of Athletics strives to build the student-athlete both in the playing arena and the classroom while upholding the school’s mission statement to educate and equip students to change the world for God’s glory.
