Byrd Blasts Vikings Past Franklin High School

After recording her 58th career victory on Friday night, FPD senior pitcher Jenna Byrd wasted no time delivering for her teammates on Saturday, leading the Vikings to an 8-7 victory over Franklin High School in day two of the Houston County Tourney.

Byrd racked up three RBIs on three hits for the Vikings, which included a two-run home run in the first inning to give the Vikings an early 2-0 advantage. Byrd also tripled in the third and singled in fifth, finished just a double away from the cycle.

With the win, the Vikings advance to championship game in their respective pool at the Houston County Tourney. FPD will square off against Perry High School at 3 p.m. today. The Vikings defeated Perry earlier this year 7-3.

FHS would even the contest at 3-3 in the fourth, but the Vikings would bounce back, touching home five times in the fifth that included a RBI single by Byrd and RBI double by teammate Claire Crawford. The Vikings also added a run on a Caitlin Collins single

Byrd recorded the victory for FPD, tossing 1 1/3 innings of shutout ball.

FHS would make things interesting in the top of the sixth, scoring four times to make it a one-run game. The Vikings would hold on, however, and secure the victory.
