Softball Shuts Out Bryan County 2-0, Byrd Sets FPD Record

With only two runs of support, First Presbyterian Day School pitcher Jenna Byrd tossed six shutout innings, as the Vikings (4-7) won their third straight, defeating Bryan County 2-0 at the Houston County Tourney on Friday night.

Byrd was magnificent in the circle, allowing just three hits over six scoreless frames. The righty also struck out six on the evening.

The win gives Byrd 58 victories, putting her in first all-time at FPD for most wins in a career.

The Viking offense scored just twice, but it was plenty to secure the win. FPD pushed across one run in the bottom of the second when Claire Crawford doubled in Caitlin Collins.

FPD would add another insurance run in the bottom of the fourth when Mary Micah Lee sacrificed and brought home Byrd.

The win for FPD is their third straight.

FPD returns to the diamond Saturday, August 25, playing in two games at the Houston County Tourney. The Vikings will square off against Franklin County at 9:00 a.m. at the Perry High School softball field. If the Vikings win, they will play at 3:00 p.m. for the championship game.
