Softball Ranked #14 in Latest Georgia Prep Country Poll, #5 in Private School Poll

MACON, Ga.- The First Presbyterian Day School softball team (9-7, 1-0) has been ranked no. 14 in the latest Georgia Prep Country Class A poll as of September 12, 2012. FPD is also no. 5 amongst all private schools in Georgia.

After dropping seven straight early in the season, the Vikings have rebounded well and have won eight in a row.

FPD has garnered an 8.3 in the latest rankings for Class A schools. The rating will help determine state playoff qualifications and seeding at the end of the season.

The Vikings are fresh off a 16-0 shutout win over GHSA Region 7-A opponent Wilkinson County. Senior starting pitcher Jenna Byrd tossed a perfect game in the three inning, run-ruling victory, the first in FPD history.

The win is also the first in school history as a member of GHSA Region 7-A.

The Vikings return to the field on Thursday, September 13, taking on Region 7-A rival Georgia Military College Prep  at 5:00 p.m. at the FPD Softball Complex. FPD then travels to play five games September 14-15 at the Chattanooga-Score International Tourney in Tennessee.

The First Presbyterian Day School Department of Athletics, home to multiple region and state championships in both the GISA and GHSA, strives to build the student athlete both in the playing arena and the classroom while continuing to educate and equip students to change the world for God’s glory. Now a member of the GHSA, the Vikings have continued to provide FPD athletes, coaches, fans and spectators a positive, Christian environment on a daily basis.
