Softball Wins Ninth Straight In Victory Over Region 7-A Rival GMC

MACON, Ga.- The First Presbyterian Day School softball team (10-7, 2-0 GHSA Region 7-A) continued its winning ways on Thursday, September 13 at the FPD Softball Complex, defeating fellow Region 7-A opponent Georgia Military College (GMC) Prep 9-1 in a run-ruling six inning contest.

The Vikings used yet another stellar pitching performance from starting pitcher Jenna Byrd in the victory. The senior tossed a six-inning complete game, while allowing just three hits. The righty struck out five and walked three.

FPD tallied 12 hits in the nine-run scoring effort, while allowing the Bulldogs of GMC to just one.

FPD trailed 1-0 early on before erupting for a five-run third inning. After a Hannah Davis single and a Lizzie Reed sacrifice bunt attempt that led to a GMC error, FPD knocked in its first run on a Courtney Lawrence single to even the game at 1-1.

After a Sumner Carlton walk, Claire Crawford singled to give FPD the lead at 2-1.

The Vikings would continue to play a-b-c softball, using singles from Caitlin Collins and Jill Rogers in the third to secure the win.

FPD added on two more runs in the fourth and two runs in the sixth to force the eight-run-rule on GMC.

The win marks the ninth consecutive victory for the Vikings on the year.

The FPD softball squad returns to the diamond quickly, taking on five teams in a two-day span at the Chattanooga-Score International Tourney in Chattanooga, TN. The Vikings will play two games on Friday evening, followed by three throughout Saturday. FPD takes on Calhoun at 5:45 p.m. and Chattooga at 9:00 p.m. Friday evening in day one of the tournament.

The First Presbyterian Day School Department of Athletics, home to multiple region and state championships in both the GISA and GHSA, strives to build the student athlete both in the playing arena and the classroom while continuing to educate and equip students to change the world for God’s glory.
