Football Drops Region Game to Wilkinson County 42-21

MACON, Ga.- The Wilkinson County and First Presbyterian Day School football teams had won a combined seven straight coming into a very important GHSA Region 7-A match on Friday, October 26, 2012. One streak would end, which was the case for the Vikings (5-3, 3-2 Reg. 7-A) as FPD dropped a 42-21 decision to the Warriors at home.

The Vikings struck first at the 4:26 mark in the first quarter when Darron Moore scored from three yards out to give FPD an early lead.

FPD scored again with 3:42 remaining in the first quarter when Kaleb Fuller returned an interception from 39 yards out to give the Vikings a commanding 14-0 lead.

The Warriors then settled in offensively, going on an 28-0 scoring run, including two running touchdowns by Shiquez Underwood and quarterback David Whipple to give Wilkinson County a 20-14 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Wilkinson opened up the scoring with 5:08 remaining in the third quarter as Whipple found teammate Jamerion Love on a 32-yard score through the air, along with a two-point conversion to give the Warriors a 28-14 lead.

The Vikings responded towards the end of the third quarter when Moore carried in a score from five yards to get the Vikings within seven at 28-21.

The Warriors, however, held the Vikings scoreless in the fourth quarter and punched in two more touchdowns, including a second score for both wide receiver Antonio Whipple and running back Underwood.

Wilkinson County tallied 343 yards in the air as Whipple completed 22 of 29 passes while throwing for three touchdowns and two interceptions.

Overall the Warriors gained 562 yards of offense on the evening. Antonio Whipple led the team in receiving with eight receptions for 155 yards and two scores. Underwood led Wilkinson in rushing, gaining 96 yards on 9 carries along with two touchdowns.

The Vikings were led in rushing by Moore, who scored twice on 11 carries for 71 yards. Alec Martin was tops in receiving on the night for FPD, hauling in five receptions for 43 yards. FPD quarterback Brooks Stroud was 11-for-20 on the night for 111 yards.

FPD will look to get back on track on Friday, November 2, traveling to play Warren County in another GHSA Region 7-A game at 7:30 p.m.
